An alumna of the NC Governor's School, I was proud to return as a theatre T.A. in 2017 and 2018, working under Brad Akin and Lauren Sale. Under both instructors, teens spent 5+ weeks devising original works. My role included support with lesson planning, instruction, script editing, assistant directing, technical elements, and providing students with constructive feedback.
In partnership with actor and teaching artist Joseph Quintana, I co-created and led a workshop series for Atlantan theatre makers. Our curriculum focuses on teaching Gabriel Roth's 5 Rhythms and the Viewpoints method before moving on to create small scenes using devising techniques. Scenes were all created using Viewpoints-based movement, sans dialogue or scripts.
In a small step towards a bigger dream, I developed an after-school devised theatre program for students aged 8-13. Included in the curriculum are: ensemble building activities, improv and writing games, movement exercises, scene development. The program is currently hosted by recreational centers in Metro Atlanta - students perform their final pieces at the end of the program for invited guests.
For the past two years, I have volunteered as a yoga instructor at the Boys and Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta. I teach breathwork, yoga philosophy, and asanas to students aged 6-11. The most impactful moment of this work came when a student told me he used our lessons to self-regulate after a spat with his sibling, and that he always felt calm and peaceful when we practiced.
